YOUTH DECIDE 2019 TOWN HAL MEETING AT THE UNIVERSITY PORT HARCOURT
On arrival of the KEYNOTE SPEAKER: HON. MRS. IBIM SEMENITARI in her address speech;
I am a Journalist, I served the people of Niger Delta as Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), I was also a Rivers State Commissioner of Information, Head of News Room for TELL Magazine. There was a time, I wanted Rivers youth in the media space, unfortunately, there wasn’t enough of them in the Industry. Back on the matter; Understanding Election and Civic Responsibilities. ELECTION can be important entry point to fellow citizens to influence politics and change. CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY on the other hand is the responsibility of citizens in a society to exhibit certain attitudes and actions related to participation in society and democratic governance. DEMOCRACY ought to be you (you here, refers to citizens) determining the political space. GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING; This is when ordinary citizens are the force behind the efforts to make that change. “LISTEN MORE TO WHAT POLITICIANS DO, THAN WHAT THEY SAY”. At the end of the day, we are responsible for the Government we bring on board. HOW CAN ELECTED OFFICIALS BE REMINDED ABOUT THEIR PROMISES AFTER ELECTIONS? By forming advocacy, the use of social media networks, print media (magazines, journals, newspaper), through music; just like what FALZ, a notable Nigerian Musician is doing through his music. “USE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA CONSTRUCTIVELY”. Finally, don’t sell your vote, the moment you do that, you reduce your right for accountability. You can’t hold the elected officials accountable. VOTE RIGHT.
MEDIA INTERVIEW WITH HON. MRS. IBIM SEMENITARI;
Her responses to some of the questions poised to her. “As long as we don’t vote, we leave the space free for rigging”. “Being young is the time, to do explore, so as young people, go out and cast your vote, it counts”. “We should insist not to engage on violence during election”. Thank you.
CROWN PRINCE OF THE NIGER DELTA (CROWN PRINCE KIO);
I encourage all of you here today, to lay a good legacy for yourself as young persons, define your path and add value to the society. As young persons, what are you doing to add value in the governance space? Youth have the energy to express emotions. Rivers youth should be entrepreneurial. There must a track record for a candidate you want to vote. What are their plans for the SOOT Problem in the State? There has to be a REVOLUTION for us to move forward.
In closing, CEO of YOUTHDECIDES2019, connect to the person’s (mentor) experience as a young person. Create good impression when dealing with aspirants, it must not be about money all the time. For Candidates in your state, River state specifically, support candidate in what they stand for, not collecting money from them, otherwise you lose your value. Engage in community development as youths. Thank you.
