2019 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITY:

THEME: BEAT AIR POLLUTION.

VENUE: 9TH FLOOR, NNPC BUILDING COMPLEX, MOSCOW ROAD, PORT HARCOURT.

SUPERVISOR. HSSED PH UDOH C.M (MRS): She highly safety tips within the building, exit and muster etc. We cannot stop breathing the Air, but we can make it clean as we breathe by keeping our environment clean. Air Pollution is a product of environmental hazards.

GMD KEYNOTE ADDRESS, READ BY ADERIBIGBE, A.A. (THE ZONAL MANAGER P.H Z.O):

This year’s theme: “Beat Air Pollution”, NNPC is jointly collaborating with other nations of the World to celebrate World Environment Day. As we carry on our daily activities, we should endeavor not to harm our environment. Thank you for joining hands with NNPC to make the World a better place.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS BY THE COO CS:

Welcome to NNPC as we commemorate the World Environment Day 2019 on Air Pollution. The effect of emission of air, result to global warming and other health diseases. Residents of Rivers State have been complaining about Black Soot, thereby we should keep the environment clean and look at Green Energy as an Alternative for good environment. Emission from Generators and Automobiles are polluting the air, the solution is to look at green and renewable energy sources like; Solar etc. Avoid open burning of waste; Adopt Green Environmental methods; We should access processes that are environmentally healthy. I wish you a fruitful World Environment Day.

I welcome you all for the WED 2019, it is celebrated globally on the 5th June. Addressing issues affecting the environment. It behooves on us all, on how to manage and proffer solutions to existing environmental challenges to increase Air Quality and embrace Green renewable Energy. 92% people in the World, don’t breathe Clean Air. Stop indiscriminate Bush Burning, including Burning of Car Tyre. Minimize Deforestation. Incorporate use of Solar in place of Petrol for Generators. Stop Illegal Refinery and Petroleum Product. Oil Exploration company to curtail Gas Flaring and employ Technological methods for safe environment. We join the World in a bit to reduce environmental Pollution/hazards. We can’t stop breathing, but we can do something about the Air we breathe.

GUEST LECTURER (OKON, ALICE UDOH).

TOPIC: ZERO AIR POLLUTION:

Air Pollution: Occurs when harmful quantities of substance including Gases and particles are introduced.  Air Pollution is one of the major environmental problems confronting Niger Delta Area. Port Harcourt, a City of about 1.4million people in the heart of Nigeria’s Oil producing region with human activities. SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION: Biomass Combustion, Bush Burning, Refuse Burning, Traffic Emission, Industrial Emission, Agricultural Activities. ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS: Formation of Acid Rain, Visibility Impairment, Effects on vegetation and Animal Life, Corrosion effects on Materials and other Artifacts. HEALTH EFFECTS: Respiratory Disease. Aggravation of Asthma, Skin Disorder etc. REMEDIES FOR AIR POLLUTION: Raising awareness, Replace Fossil fuel with Clean Energy, Eco-Friendly Transportation i.e. Bus, Train, Bicycle or walk. Cutout Bush Burning, Laws and Regulation, Laws can make Polluters clean up their act. In conclusion, Air Pollution is not someone else problem, all of us help to cause it and we can all help to clean it up.

QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION (Q&A):

Eradication of Fir-wood, because of Technology and all human activities are contributing to Air Pollution; we are advice to use “GAS”, it is friendly than Stove. Don’t burn Generator, use inverters instead.
